In the last couple of days, one major online discussion has been about Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep being a part of SS Rajamouli’s Mahesh Babu-led Varanasi. This has been a rumour that’s been floating for a while and Sudeep had addressed it during the promotions of his last release, Mark. When asked if he was playing Anjaneya (Hanuman) in the magnum opus, Sudeep had denied the development, so, his fans have been claiming that the latest buzz around Varanasi is false.

The buzz about Sudeep in the Mahesh Babu film comes at a time when his own Billa Ranga Baashaa has been put on hold. According to industry sources, Primeshow Entertainment, the makers of Hanu-Man, who are backing the film, have had financial challenges in taking the project forward. Director Anup Bhandari has been trying to get other investors on board, but in the meantime, a good role in Varanasi seems apt for Sudeep, reckon his fans.

“Hoping it’s true. His roles since Vikrant Rona have not been great,” wrote a netizen, while another added that Sudeep’s refusal to chop off his long locks could be for the continuity in Billa Ranga Baashaa or Rajamouli’s Varanasi. However, given the time that he will need to allot to the project, it’s more likely that he will not do it, given that he’s aiming for a release a year and has, reportedly, okayed a romantic comedy to go on floors shortly.
