Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan's latest movie King of Kotha on Thursday released to packed houses across the world. Especially, the movie has taken an earth-shattering opening in Kerala , where it's set to break the opening-day record of many previous blockbusters.

King of Kotha kicked off the holiday season on a spectacular note with housefull shows across Kerala. The shows started very early in the morning, boosting the chances of posting impressive opening-day collection figures. Based on the advance booking and its grand opening, the trade believes that the movie's first day collection in Kerala will be higher than blockbusters like 2018, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan and director Mani Ratnam's epic drama Ponniyin Selvan 2. And the stakeholders are also confident that the final numbers will surpass the opening day collection of Thalapathy Vijay's Beast, which was over Rs 6 crore. Meanwhile, Superstar Rajinikanth's latest movie Jailer also took a huge opening by grossing more than Rs 5 crore at the Kerala box office.

However, when it comes to the biggest opener in Kerala, Kannada superstar Yash's KGF: Chapter 2 remains unbeaten. The movie made its debut last year at the Kerala box office by raking in over Rs 7 crore on its opening day. Will King of Kotha beat that year-old record by the end of Thursday? It remains to be seen.

However, it's clear that King Of Kotha is set to become one of the biggest hits of Malayalam cinema this year. Given Dulquer's popularity with moviegoers across the country, King of Kotha might just set a new box office benchmark for Malayalam cinema.
