When Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom released on July 31, 2025, it received mixed reviews and yet, reportedly, made a little under Rs 45 crore from its Telugu and Tamil versions in its first week at the box office. The film has had a significant reduction in footfalls and is expected to make its way to OTT shortly. The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film, directed by Gautam Tinnanuri, rest with Netflix.

Kingdom to head to OTT within a month?

According to reports, the streamer is pushing for an on or before 30 days from theatrical release outing for the film on the platform. August 28 is being speculated as the OTT premiere of Kingdom, but there has been no confirmation from the platform or the makers of the film. The film is the first of a two-part saga, but after the spectacular crash at the box office after a great opening, it remains to be seen if and when the second instalment gets made.

An Anirudh Ravichander musical, Kingdom was expected to be the film to give Vijay’s career a fillip given that he had two back-to-back flops earlier. According to reports, the film, made at a budget of Rs 130 crore, is unlikely to break even. With Rajinikanth’s Coolie and the Hindi film War 2 set to hit theatres in a week, Kingdom’s box office journey looks tough.

Also starring Sathyadev, Bhagyashri Borse, Manish Chaudhari, Ayyappa Sharma, Baburaj, Venkitesh VP, Goparaju Ramana, among others, Kingdom is currently in the eye of a storm, with protests erupting over the depiction of Sri Lankan Tamils in the film. The team has issued an apology, but whether that will be enough to calm down the protesters remains to be seen.
