Kona OTT release date: One of multiple releases on October 31, Komal’s film did not have a long theatrical run, but received decent reviews for blending folklore and superstitions with chills.

Komal reunited with his Undenaama co-star Thanisha Kuppanda on the horror comedy Kona, with the latter also chipping in as co-producer on the film. Released in theatres on October 31 as one of many Kannada films that came out that day, Kona received fairly decent reviews, but did not have a long box office stint. It is, however OTT bound, with Zee Network having picked up the digital streaming rights. The film has been set a December 19 premiere date on the platform.

Directed by Hari Krishna S, Kona’s cast also includes Vinay Gowda, Rithvi Jagadish, Raghu Raamanakoppa, Jagappa, Ranjith, Namratha Gowda, Shishir Shastry, MK Mutt, and Vijay Chendoor, among others. The story of Kona kicks off in the 19th century, when the residents of a certain village are struck down by a mysterious force and found dead in the river. To ward off this evil, the King is told to demarcate the village limits and keep it under the local deity’s protection with a set of rituals, including animal sacrifice.

In the present day, though, continuing this annual tradition faces hindrance, what with animal sacrifice not allowed. What happens when a wandering fortune teller, Narayana (Komal) comes to this village, during the temple festival and new evils are unleashed forms the crux of the tale. Kona being a Komal film, though, is not all about scares; there’s comedy too, albeit not loud, in-your-face humour. It is more understated, but just enough to strike a balance between the eerie and the laughs.

Kona is one of very few 2025 films that Zee5 has picked up. There was Agnyathavasi, Elumale and Green. The next big-ticket film that the network has acquired is Arjun Janya’s 45, while rumours also suggest that Kiccha Sudeep’s Mark could also be headed to the platform, since they’d taken his last hit, Max.
