In just over three weeks, Challenging Star Darshan’s first release in two years, Kranti, will be in theatres. The film reunites the actor with the team of his earlier Yajamana, including producers Shylaja Nag and B Suresha and composer-director V Harikrishna. While Yajamana had him romance Rashmika Mandanna, this time, though, he is paired with his Bulbul and Ambareesha co-star Rachita Ram.

Kranti, as the name suggests, is about a revolution, and the team has chosen education as the theme of the film. Darshan plays an NRI who returns to India to save his alma mater, a Kannada medium school. The film was launched as a pan-India project, but in the run-up to the release, Darshan had clarified that he has made a Kannada movie and that he would not promote it anywhere but in Karnataka and only for the audiences who have showered him with love over the years. Kranti will, however, be dubbed and released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam too. The film will release on January 26 and is in direct box office competition with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathan.

The buzz in industry circles is that the makers have sold the digital rights of the film. The deal is apparently with Amazon Prime Video, which also hosts Darshan’s Yajamana and Roberrt, among others. In an earlier interaction with the media, the actor had said that Kranti would head to OTT only after 45 days of its theatrical outing, so, it would be safe to say that it will be on the platform by mid-March, latest.

Meanwhile, Darshan, who has been busy with the film’s promotions, was most recently in the news when an aggrieved Puneeth Rajkumar fan threw a chappal at him at the song launch event in Hospet. The incident had triggered a massive online fan feud, amid already simmering tension between the two factions. Three people have reportedly been arrested in connection with the incident.
