Kuttram Purindhavan is a crime drama web series which revolves around the mysterious disappearance of young girl Mercy during a temple festival, following which the police seem to connect her case to similar disappearances of young girls in the town. Kuttram Purindhavan begins with a temple festival and we are introduced to Bhaskaran (Pasupathy), a retiring hospital staff who lives with his wife and sick grandson. Although not a doctor, the villagers seek Bhaskaran’s help in treatment at times. On the other hand, Bhaskaran is waiting for his retirement money to be released so that it can be diverted towards his grandson’s operation. It is at this time when Bhaskaran’s neighbour Solomon bangs his door and carries in his little daughter Mercy’s unconscious body, asking for Bhaskaran to treat and save her. Mercy is bleeding as Bhaskaran guesses she has been subjected to sexual assault. Even as Bhaskaran refuses to treat her as he is not a certified practitioner and that a woman doctor is supposed to examine Mercy, he reluctantly begins to check Mercy, while Solomon in his frantic attempt to save his daughter falls off from the balcony and dies. A shocked Bhaskaran is left even more hapless when Mercy too dies, making him look guilty even as he is not.

Did Bhaskaran escape with Mercy’s body?

With no witness to prove that he is innocent, and need to be careful enough not to get caught by police for the sake of his retirement money, Bhaskaran decides to hide Mercy’s body. He chooses his grandson who is battling for life over a dead Mercy. He hides her body inside their fridge, and reveals to his wife (played by Lizzie Antony), who is both petrified and shocked to know about her husband’s actions. Meanwhile, Mercy’s mother Esther (Lakshmipriyaa Chandramouli) gets to know the death of her husband and disappearance of her child, making her go into a shock and desperate attempt to find her child.

How is Mercy’s disappearance linked to a larger case?

Mercy’s disappearance only makes the case thicker. Subsequently after Mercy’s disappearance, police begin to find that it is connected to the larger kidnappings of young girls in the town. Gowtham (Viddharth), an underdog cop who is facing his own discrimination from his department, begins his own probe. After several misleads, and red-herrings, including suspecting on a local priest and teacher, Bhaskaran and Gowtham work together to find the real killer. Meanwhile, Bhaskaran is consumed by the guilt of hiding the truth about Mercy. On the other hand, Esther’s worry gets more frantic as she begins to plead Bhaskaran to find her daughter. Bhaskaran and his wife who are left helpless despite knowing the truth, is consumed by guilt.

Who is the real killer?

It is at this time when Bhaskaran gets a call from a mysterious person asking him to surrender Mercy’s body. By this time, Esther too confides in a secret about her daughter Mercy and that she was born out of wedlock and not for Solomon. Consumed by her own guilt, this gives Bhaskaran and Esther a crucial clue in the case. They find a pattern among all the missing children, and that they were all born out of wedlock. Meanwhile, Bhaskaran who had hid Mercy’s body in a freezer, finds out that it has gone missing, making the case murkier. When the killer contacts Bhaskaran for one last time to surrender her body in return of Gowtham’s young daughter he is holding hostage, Bhaskaran faces him for the first time. In a face-off, the killer is revealed to be Chandran, the father of Subha, the first child who went missing in the case. In a flashback, we are revealed that Chandran tried to kidnap Mercy from her home. A doctor himself, he had been a pervert all the while and even eyed on young girls who had come to his clinic for blood test. While visiting schools for blood camps, Chandran had preyed on young girls. Having access to blood samples of many young children, he took up the ones whose DNA did not match their family, thus targeting children born out of wedlock. Further, it is revealed that he kidnapped such girls, abused and murdered them before burning their bodies. But when realised that his own daughter is not his, Chandran abused the child and killed her, similar to Mercy.

Where is Mercy’s body?

Back to the present, Chandran is handed over to the police. But the case on the missing body of Mercy is still a question. Pasupathy comes out true to the police and what happened on the night of Solomon’s death. Felt betrayed and pained, Esther slaps Bhaskaran who understands her pain and feels relieved of telling the truth. However, the question of where Mercy’s body went missing from the freezer still remains unanswered. Days after, Bhaskaran returns home to find peace with his wife and grandson who is now ailing after the operation. Esther, who is still angry with the elderly couple, visit them daily only to offer prayers to their grandson for him to recover soon. Bhaskaran is released from arrest on the grounds of Mercy’s body not yet found. However, it is only shown to the audience from the grandson’s perspective through which we see Bhaskaran’s wife had stolen the body from freezer and buried it in their garden now. The wife is shown watering the plants and flowers which has grown from the ground that now rests Mercy’s body.
