One of the most iconic series in Indian television history, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi will be returning to Star Plus. With episodes also available on JioHotstar (OTTplay Premium), the new season will debut on July 29, 2025, at 10:30 PM according to the channel's promo. With the relaunch, Smriti Irani is back in the role she became famous for as Tulsi Virani when the show first ran in 2000.

Relive the golden era of Indian television with classics like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kkusum, and Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan, now streaming on OTTplay Premium.

Nostalgia takes centre stage

The new promo evokes nostalgia. Tulsi herself unexpectedly interrupts a family's restaurant reminiscences about the show in the first scene. As she stands next to a tulsi plant, she declares, "Zaroor aaoongi, kyunki humara 25 saalon ka rishta jo hai. Waqt aagaya hai aapse phir milne ka" Tulsi exclaims, donning her trademark bun, a purple saree, and a bindi. According to the channel, the sequel is a new chapter with new stories that keep the heartfelt core that made the original so popular.

Amar Upadhyay will reprise his role as Mihir Virani in the upcoming season, alongside Smriti Irani. Their onscreen chemistry was key to the original plot and will likely be even more important in the new adaptation. The Virani family's traditions will be carried on by a new generation of characters, including Hiten Tejwani, Gauri Pradhan, and other recognisable faces.

The return of the show coincides with an important anniversary, as it marks a quarter of a century since its launch on July 3, 2000. It revolutionised the storytelling of soap operas and became an instant classic on Indian television. Prior to its 2008 off-air, the original series aired for more than 1,800 episodes.

Smriti Irani's comeback to acting

Smriti Irani, who has been a Union Minister and made a political career change after her triumph on the show, had previously left acting. People of all ages, from die-hard fans to those who have never seen the original, are likely to tune in to see her reprise her role as Tulsi Virani.

There is a lot of excitement about the upcoming debut of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi even if it is still a few weeks away. For now, though, Tulsi is back, and Indian television is keeping an eye on how well the reboot does in comparison to the original.
