A day after revealing the release date for Ekta Kapoor's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, the maker has released a statement in which she has clarified why the show's new season is out only now. Interestingly, just a few days back, Smriti Irani had revealed that Kyunki 2 was supposed to happen long ago. Here's everything you need to know...

In her media statement, Ekta Kapoor addresses how and why Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi happened now. The filmmaker claims that she did not want to touch the TV show. In the long note, Ekta clarifies the moment it all changed, and she decided to say yes to the reboot. The filmmaker decided to touch upon the topic after knowing that the story was unfinished. She also started the journey with the hope of bringing back the time when people chased impactful stories and not TRPs. “Can we reclaim the power to reach millions to actually change mindsets and thoughts? Can we discuss parenting? The balance between concern and control? Can we talk about issues that we shy away from today?,” a part of her post read.

Smriti Irani shared that Kyunki 2 was supposed to happen previously

Smriti Irani had recently shared on a podcast with Barkha Singh and Karan Johar that Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 was supposed to happen long ago. During her conversation with Karan Johar, she spoke about how she was supposed to start working on the show’s rebooted version long ago, but could not because she had to take an oath as the minister. The actor-politician also went on to reveal that she had to reject a movie with the late Rishi Kapoor also to fulfil her duties as a politician.

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi release date

With episodes also available on JioHotstar (OTTplay Premium), the new season will debut on July 29, 2025, at 10:30 PM, according to the channel's promo.
