Shashank’s second film with Radhika Pandit, paired her with Krishna Ajai Rao, in a tale of love vs societal pressure. Radhika played Geetha, a girl from a middle-class family, who chooses a life with a wealthy guy over what her heart desires, out of the very practical notion of wanting a better future. But does she find true happiness? Also starring Umashri, Achyuth Kumar, Sharan, Pradeep, Harsha and Kaddipudi Chandru, the film was remade in Bengali.
Duniya Vijay was the protagonist in Shashank’s next, in which he played a gangster posing as a gym instructor. His aim is to kill an international crime boss and take control of his empire. The film explores the idea that some individuals are inherently predisposed to criminal behaviour, rather than being shaped by societal factors. Pranitha Subhash was the heroine, while Sampath Raj, J Karthik were among the antagonists.
Shashank’s first collaboration with Kiccha Sudeep was a psychological action drama, in which the actor was paired with Bhavana. While the story is largely a revenge drama, after Sudeep’s character Bharath loses the love of his life, to a corrupt politician-real estate mafia, there is an underlying message about corruption and how perpetrators often escape accountability. Also in the film were Parul Yadav, P Ravi Shankar, Jagapathi Babu, Jai Jagdish, Sudha Belawadi, Tulip Joshi and others.
This romantic drama reunited Shashank and Krishna Ajai Rao, with Ashwini Nakshatra fame Mayuri Kyatari making her big screen debut. Ajai was Krishna and Mayuri Leela whose lives get intertwined owing to a missed call. Love, communication and sacrifice were central to the tale, which also had Rangayana Raghu, Shobaraj, Dharmendra Urs, Achyuth Kumar, Tabla Nani, Vijay Chendoor, among others, on board.
Shashank’s last directorial and first collaboration with Darling Krishna had the latter as the title character Rama, a youngster who is brought up by his strict father to always behave ‘like a man’, even if that is hurtful to the people around him. Rama’s arrogant and chauvinistic ways get in the way of his first relationship and when he then marries the girl his late mother wanted him to meet, she gives him a taste of his own medicine. Krishna was paired with Brinda Acharya and Milana Nagaraj in the film that put the spotlight on the harmful nature of male chauvinism.
