As a Yogaraj Bhat protégé, who then struck out on his own, Sukka Suri made films that audiences loved and came to look forward to. Suri, who later got the moniker Duniya Suri, following the success of his second directorial Duniya, which was the first based on a story that he wrote, had a bit of a misstep with his last directorial, Bad Manners , which was meant to give the junior rebel star Abishek Ambareesh a fillip to his career. The film, though, bombed and netizens pointed out that it lacked a typical ‘Suri flavour’.

The filmmaker, who had announced a sequel to his earlier Kendasampige, called Kaage Bangara, seems to have put that on the backburner again, as he has announced a collaboration with Yuva Rajkumar, which will be produced by PRK Productions, KRG Studios and Jayanna Films. Since the news broke, fans have been posting on social media, asking the filmmaker to give Yuva a film like Jackie, which he did with the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar.

Here are the Sukka Suri directorials that you absolutely need to see and are available on OTTplay Premium

Inthi Ninna Preethiya

After serving as co-director on Suntaragaali which cred its Sadhu Kokila as director, Suri made his directorial debut with Duniya, for which he won a state award for Best Screenplay, besides the Best Actor honour for leading man Vijay Kumar. He followed this up with Inthi Ninna Preethi, a drama that he wrote, directed and produced, with Srinagara Kitty in the lead, along with Bhavana Ramana and Sonu Gowda. The film’s plot revolved around the effects of alcohol addiction.

Jackie

Suri’s next, Junglee reunited him with his Duniya actor, Vijay, but the romantic drama failed to work at the box office. He was then given the opportunity to work with Puneeth Rajkumar and presented him in a completely different avatar than he’d been seen onscreen before. The initial reports suggested that fans were surprised by this turn of events, but eventually, they began to love the characterisation that Suri had put together for Puneeth. The film brought Malayalam actress Bhavana to Kannada cinema and was a big hit.

Kaddi Pudi

Suri’s follow up to the successful Jackie was Anna Bond with Puneeth yet again, but this time, it opened to mixed reviews. The filmmaker then moved on to Puneeth’s brother Shivarajkumar and their first collaboration paired the Hattrick Hero with Radhika Pandit. A crime drama, Kaddi Pudi, had Shivarajkumar as a rowdy, who vows to give up his life of crime and settle down. What he does when the tranquillity of his home is threatened forms the crux of the story. While all the performances were hailed, the film received mixed reviews.

Doddmane Huduga

Suri’s next big hit came when he collaborated with Puneeth Rajkumar yet again. The action drama, which paired Puneeth with Radhika Pandit, was his 25th as a leading man. Audiences were appreciative of the story-telling, as well as the casting, with Rebel Star Ambareesh and his wife Sumalatha playing Puneeth’s parents. The film’s music by V Harikrishna was also a big hit.

Tagaru

Then came Tagaru, yet another collaboration with Shivarajkumar, which was far more successful than their earlier film, Kaddi Pudi. In fact, it became one of the highest grossing films of 2018. This time around, he presented an action crime drama with Shivarajkumar playing a fearless cop. The film had Dhananjaya, Vasishta N Sima and Suddhi as antagonists, and their character names stuck on. Dhananjaya was Daali, a moniker he still uses and even named his production house after, while Suddhi is now known as Cockroach Suddhi. Vasishta’s Chitte didn’t last that long.
