Movies like Ra.One where Shah Rukh Khan broke stereotype

Shah Rukh Khan has given us some memorable performances over the years, all while breaking stereotype as often as possible

Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan has always been one to break stereotypes since the beginning of his career. When the actor was about to be labelled as a romantic hero (which he is considered even today), the actor entered his villain era, and slayed. When all other actors were averse to experimenting, Shah Rukh Khan would risk it all and do it anyway. Anubhav Sinha's Ra.One was one such project (where SRK wanted to introduce sci-fi to India), but it surely did not end with that. He worked in movies that would break stereotype about either him or in general.

Movies where Shah Rukh Khan broke stereotype

Pardes - Film that stated domestic violence is a global plague

While portraying domestic violence in movies was itself considered taboo (given how audiences wished for entertainment over everything at the time), SRK worked in a film that smartly showed how domestic violence is not a plague that is limited to India. It happens on a global scale and that it is upon the partner to choose their red flag or green flag.

Deewana - Starting his villain era

Deewana is among the many examples where Shah Rukh Khan broke the norm and chose to portray a negative character (read obsessive lover). It is where the actor slowly entered his villain era and slayed.

Josh - Playing sibling to lead actress

In times where an actor and actress were cast as romantic leads, Shah Rukh Khan chose to play Miss World Aishwarya Rai's brother. He showed no qualms and let Chandrachur Singh play the lover, while being busy playing the protective brother in secret and bully to his sister in public.

Karan Arjun - Two superstars can exist in the same movie and make it a blockbuster

Karan Arjun was among one of Shah Rukh Khan's earlier films where he showed no resistance in working with Salman Khan (who delivered a flop Andaz Apna Apna at the time with Aamir Khan just a year back). While Salman was already an established star, Shah Rukh Khan was also making it big in the industry. It was a big risk and Shah Rukh Khan took it anyway. The result is a legendary movie with the iconic dialogue, "Mere Karan Arjun aayenge." The phrase is now used every time there's even speculation of SRK-Salman's collaboration.

Krazzy 4 - Cameo appearance in a dance song in a movie that has nothing to do with him

Shah Rukh Khan had turned a producer by the time Krazzy 4 released. It was the first time when the actor did not produce the movie or was associated with it in any way but he appeared in the film just to support his fellow artists. The actor was seen in the song Break Free in the film. Although the track comes at a crucial moment, his cameo ends with that.
