Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra has finally put the spotlight on Santhy Balachandran, a Malayalam actress who has featured in several noted films and series, across languages. But for Lokah, Santhy chose to remain in the background and scripted Malayalam’s first woman superhero film, which is winning much accolades. Not just films, Santhy is also active in theatre and was also a diligent student who even pursued her higher studies at Oxford.

Who is Santhy Balachandran?

Santhy Balachandran made her Malayalam debut with the 2017 film Tharangam, which starred Tovino Thomas in the lead role. Incidentally, Tharangam is helmed by Dominic Arun who is also the director of Lokah and with whom Santhy co-wrote the script. But before venturing into films, Santhy was a diligent student. After studying at the Hyderabad Central University, Santhy pursued higher education at the prestigious Oxford University.

After her film debut, she featured in several noted films including Jallikkattu, helmed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, which was India’s official submission to the 93rd Academy Awards. She also starred in Paapam Cheyyathavar Kalleriyatte, which featured an ensemble cast of Vinay Forrt, Tini Tom, Srinda Arhaan, and Arun Kurian. Not just in Malayalam, she has also acted in Hindi and Tamil projects. She featured in Gulmohar, along with Manoj Bajpayee and Sharmila Tagore. Santhy also played one of the lead roles in the Tamil series Sweet Kaaram Coffee, along with the veteran Lakshmi and Madhoo.

Her latest acting project to release is the Malayalam web series, The Chronicles of the 4.5 Gang, helmed by Krishand. She played Kingini, the love interest of Arikuttan.

Apart from movies, she is active in theatre. She was part of the play, A Very Normal Family, directed by Roshan Mathew, another actor with a strong presence in the theatre space. Santhy is also among the actors of Roshan Mathew's new play Bye Bye Bypass.
