Maamanithan: Vijay Sethupathi, Seenu Ramasamy bag best actor, director awards at Indo French Film International Festival

It looks like the team of Maamanithan is going places. The latest we hear is that the film's director Seenu Ramasamy and lead actor Vijay Sethupathi have bagged the Best Director and Best Actor awards at the Indo French International Film Festival. Seenu Ramasamy shared the news on his social media page and wrote, "Congratulations @VijaySethuOffl For best Actor & @thisisysr For best picture #Maamanithan movie Thank you #INDOFRENCHINTERNATIONALFILMFESTIVAL #Maamanithan @ahatamil @ahavideoIN @YSRfilms @SGayathrie @gurusoms @shajichen @mynnasukumar @sreekar_prasad @onlynikil @Riyaz_Ctc (sic)."

The team had recently bagged the award for the Best Asian Film at the Tokyo Film Awards. Veteran director Bharathiraja had congratulated the team on the occasion on his social media handle. He had written, "My congrats and best wishes to Seenu Ramasamy and his team as his 'Maamanithan' has won the Best Asian Film Award by Tokyo Film Awards. I expect and believe that Maamanithan may take this great man to all the heights of many more awards and rewards because he deserved for it (sic)."

Maamanithan stars Vijay Sethupathi, Gayathrie Shankar, KPAC Lalitha, Guru Somasundaram and Shaji Chen. Music for the film is by Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. Cinematography is by M Sukumar and editing is by A Sreekar Prasad. The film released on June 24, after a long delay. The plot revolves around an honest auto driver, who gets cheated by a land mafia.

This is the fourth time that Vijay Sethupathi and Seenu Ramasamy are teaming up for a film after Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, Dharma Durai, Idam Porul Yaeval. The film marked the first collaboration of Ilaiyaraaja with his sons Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. Maamanithan is now streaming on Aha and the satellite rights of the film have been acquired by Zee Tamil. The film was bankrolled by Yuvan Shankar Raja under the YSR Productions banner.
