Maarigallu series on OTT: All 7 episodes of director Devaraj Poojary’s Kannada thriller show were meant to be available on October 31 in multiple languages, but only 4 are out now and in Kannada only

Maarigallu the third Kannada series commissioned by Zee Network this year, was meant to drop on the platform (also OTTplay Premium) on October 31 – all 7 episodes, with not just Kannada, but multiple audio options as well. However, as of 9 am on October 31, only 4 episodes of the show are available and in Kannada only. For non-Kannada audiences, English subtitles are available. The show stars Praveen Tej, Rangayana Raghu, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Prashanth Siddi, AS Suraj, Ninad Harithsa, Nidhi Hegde, among others.

The plot of Maarigallu

Maarigallu is set in a village in Sirsi in the 90s, where a long-lost treasure from the Kadamba dynasty is said to be buried and remains under the protection of Maari. The myth is that whosoever has come seeking this wealth has never made it out of the forest and died by coughing up blood. A descendant of the Kadamba lineage, Ashoka Sharma (Gopalkrishna Deshpande), has been accumulating ancient stone inscriptions that will lead him to the treasure chest that he believes is rightfully his.

However, when an officer from the archaeology department, Mari Gowda (Rangayana Raghu) also shows interest in finding this long wealth – not as the greatest discovery, but for personal gains – he enlists the help of a bunch of youngsters, including Varada (Praveen Tej) and his friends to get to it. What happens after they find the treasure forms the crux of the tale.

Maarigallu has been produced by Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar and is directed by Devaraj Poojary, who’d earlier made the Pruthvi Ambaar-led Matsyagandha. The series has a strong Kantara feel, including the divine guardianship, daiva narthakas and more, but the promise is that since it is a treasure hunt, there are a lot of twists and turns in the thriller. Each episode is around 32 minutes in duration.
