Aamir Khan Still Keen On Making Mahabharat

Over the past many years, while there have been numerous rumors and speculations, some have been much bigger than others. While some movies got made, others were stuck in production hell, or perhaps the rumors were simply not true. One such movie that lacked any concrete information was the magnum opus Mahabharat, which was being envisioned as one of the biggest films in the Indian film industry. Back in the day, rumors suggested that Aamir Khan had been wanting to make it forever and was also set to headline the movie as Lord Krishna. In one of his 2019 interviews, he even confessed that he wanted to play Krishna in a movie, though he did not confirm anything about Mahabharat. It turns out that he has finally spoken about it and revealed that he is still keen on making the film.

In case you have been away from mainstream news, for many years, there have been rumors about Aamir Khan’s plans to make Mahabharat on a grand scale. Over time, several names were associated with the project, including Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and more. However, none of these reports turned out to be true. Now, speaking at the ABP Network’s Ideas of India 2025, Aamir Khan has shared that he still dreams of making the movie and wants to cater to children through the content he backs next.

"It is my dream to make Mahabharat, so maybe now I’ll be able to think about that dream. Let’s see if I’ll have a role in it to play. What excites me is children’s content. I believe that in India, we create very little children-centric content. Usually, we import it from abroad, dub it here, and release it. I want to create original stories for children," Khan said.

In the same conversation, Aamir Khan also spoke about how he now wants to nurture new talent and focus on giving them a platform through his production ventures. "As an actor, I do one film at a time, and I’m happy with that. However, I’m now trying to produce more films. Next month, I’ll turn 60, and for the next 10 to 15 years, I want to do more work and create opportunities for newer talent," Khan stated.

He added, "I want to produce new kinds of stories and provide a platform for talent across the country. I want to make my production house vibrant." He also emphasized the importance of recognizing writers, stating, "As creative people, we should give a lot more value to writers. This is one thing I would like to change in the industry. Writers should be valued not only in terms of recognition but also in terms of time and money."
