Mahavatar Narsimha, the animated tale of the fourth avatar of lord Vishnu, directed by Ashwin Kumar of Kleem Productions, which was brought to theatres by Hombale Films has been in theatres for only 12 days, but there are already murmurs about where one can stream it after the theatrical run. Released in 5 languages, Mahavatar Narsimha hit theatres on July 25 and has been a runaway hit, accumulating Rs 100 crore at the box office so far, recording its highest collections so far on the second weekend.

Mahavatar Narsimha headed to two platforms?

A few days ago, reports emerged that the makers had finalized the post-theatrical streaming rights. It was said that two platforms would get to host the film, with the Hindi version supposedly heading to JioHotstar, and the four south language versions – Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam – to Amazon Prime Video. It would make sense given that Hombale Films has followed a split formula with other productions; Kantara is on Prime Video (south languages) and Netflix (Hindi), while Salaar: Ceasefire is on Netflix (south languages) and JioHotstar (Hindi).

The makers have, meanwhile, denied any such development, and given that the film is doing well in theatres, they would want to give it a longer run. Any potential news of an OTT deal at this stage could cause a decline a footfalls. However, given that most of Hombale Films projects are on these major platforms, there could be merit in the reports after all. Official confirmation is awaited on the OTT partner.

The film, meanwhile, explores the story of the Narsimha avatar and the battle against the demon Hiranyakashipu to protect a devotee, Prahlada. Ashwin, who spent 5 years on the making of the film, has admitted that while the animation is not yet of global standards, it is a stepping stone in that direction. He also said that the choice of story to begin this cinematic universe stems from the fact that the story merited a feature film telling.
