Mahavatar Narsimha out on OTT: Directed by Ashwin Kumar, the animated film Mahavatar Narsimha follows the story of the fourth incarnation of lord Vishnu.
Mahavatar Narsimha, the massive hit animated film created by Ashwin Kumar, chronicling the leelas of the fourth incarnation of lord Vishnu, is now streaming. The 2 hour and 10 minutes long film, which released on July 25, had a successful 50-day theatrical run, following which it then dropped on Netflix on September 19 in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
Although the film was marketed as the tale of the fourth incarnation of lord Vishnu, it also details the origin of the third avatar, Varaha, who emerged from the nostril of Brahma to rescue Bhumidevi from the depths of the cosmic ocean, where the demon Hiranyaksha had kept her captive. Hiranyaksha and his twin brother Hiranyakashipu, were masters of the dark arts and intend on vanquishing their biggest enemy, lord Vishnu. But would that be possible?
Ashwin, an animation specialist, spent 5 years on the film, which he later revealed was only the first in a series of 7 mahavatar movies. While it was initially said that Ashwin had managed to make the film at a budget of Rs 15 crore, he later clarified that including worldwide marketing, Rs 40 crore had been spent. The film was a runaway hit in theatres, amassing a worldwide gross of over Rs 500 crore, trade trackers estimating that the net collection is around Rs 345 cr.
Buoyed by the film’s success, Ashwin and his collaborators announced the Mahavatar series, with the next instalment, Mahavatar Parshuram, expected in 2027. Mahavatar Raghunandan (2029), Mahavatar Dwarkadhish (2031), Mahavatar Gokulananda (2033), Mahavatar Kalki Part 1 (2035), Mahavatar Kalki Part 2 (2037) are the other films proposed as part of the franchise.
