Mai is a story of a middle-class mother, played by Sakshi Tanwar, whose child,Wamiqa Gabbi, gets hit by a truck right in front of her eyes. The mother seeks vengeance against those who killed her daughter.

In recent times, the actress has been doing a lot of work in the TV and digital space. She has been quoted as saying that she’s enjoying her time in the OTT space, especially after her last release Dwitiyo Purush. Her other recent OTT projects include Hello, Love Bites, Parchhayee, Black Widows and the Last Hour.

Raima Sen, who plays Neelam on the show, has a character teaser on Netflix, and while it's unclear what her role in the series entails or how she's tied to Tanwar's, it's evident that it has a fair share of grey shades. While this is not the first time that Raima has portrayed a negative character, the actress also got to do action sequences in Mai.

Talking about the action scenes in the series, Raima was quoted as saying, “At first, it was difficult because of the pistol’s weight and I couldn't even press my finger against the trigger.” However, after training with a stunt master, she realised that staying in the zone is the most crucial thing. The goal, she added, was to make the action moments look realistic while maintaining a cinematic feel. “It all worked out in the end. It was, without a doubt, a wonderful experience”, she says.

Explaining the concept of the show, showrunner Atul Mongia said that Mai pits the homely, traditional, compassionate Indian mother of popular Indian TV and Hindi movies against the harsh reality of the ruthless world out there, compelling her and us to question our belief systems.

Mai will be available to stream on Netflix from April 15.
