Maidaan makers issue clarification on Ajay Devgn-starrer’s pay-per-view release

Soon after Salman Khan released Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai following a pay-per-view (PPV) model on OTT platform ZEE5, it was rumoured that Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan too would follow a similar strategy. However, the film’s producers have now put an end to all speculation by releasing a statement.

Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta, who are jointly producing Maidaan, released a statement, saying that they have not yet reached a decision about where they want to release the film.

“We would like to share that there is currently no conversation with any streaming platform for pay-per-view release of the film Maidaan. Our focus, at present, is to complete the film keeping everyone’s safety in mind and in full compliance of protocols laid down by the government,” read the statement.

In Maidaan, Ajay plays the role of real-life football coach Syed Abdul Rahim and the film is set in an era when Indian football enjoyed as much popularity as other sports.

The film, also starring Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh in pivotal roles, is likely to release in theatres on August 13, 2021.

The makers are yet to release any promotional video of the film after the first look poster of Ajay’s character.

Salman Khan’s Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai released on ZEEPlex, the pay-per-view service of ZEE5 on May 13.
