Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan’s latest movie Malikappuram is all set to be screened in theatres in the UAE a week after its grand release in Kerala. The film, helmed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar, has Unni Mukundan essaying a Sabarimala pilgrim, who helps a bunch of kids safely reach their destination.

Scripted by Night Drive and Pathaam Valavu writer Abhilash Pillai, the movie is an entertainer that also stars Saiju Kurup, Ramesh Pisharody, Manoj K Jayan and child artistes Devanandha and Sripad. The film has been rated 18 Till Confirmed (18TC) in the UAE, where it will hit theatres on January 5, 2023. The bookings for the shows have already begun.

The film revolves around eight-year-old Kalyani’s dream to visit Sabarimala, and how she reaches the temple amid the various challenges in her life. Incidentally, the movie’s Tamil and Telugu versions will also be releasing in the first week of January.

Unni recently took to his social media page, soon after the release of the film in Kerala, and had posted that the Tamil and Telugu versions will hit theatres in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on January 6.

The movie marked Unni’s fourth Malayalam release in 2022 after Meppadiyan, 12th Man and Shefeekkinte Santosham. He had also played cameos in Bro Daddy and Pyaali last year, apart from his Telugu movies Khiladi and Yashoda.

In Shefeekkinte Santosham, he played a Dubai-based youngster who travels to Kerala to get engaged, but lands in trouble after the people suspect him of being involved in smuggling. The film, directed by Anup Pandalam, also has Divya Pillai, Athmiya Rajan, Manoj K Jayan and Bala as part of the cast. Shefeekkinte Santosham is set to begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video in India and Simply South in the rest of the world from January 6.
