Twenty years after their acclaimed movie Ore Kadal, director Shyamaprasad and Mammootty will reportedly team up again for a film. While there were several rumours that the duo was teaming up for a travel-themed film, it now seems to be put on hold and the veteran filmmaker is reportedly working on a film based on Sara Joseph’s Aalohari Aanandam.

The movie, which was set to go on floors last year, has been pushed to later this year, according to rumours. Shyamaprasad had been working on the movie’s script for the past few years and is ready to begin filming as soon as Mammootty is done with his current commitments.

The megastar is currently shooting for Ranjith’s segment Kadugannawa Oru Yathra from the Netflix anthology, based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories. The filming is currently underway in Sri Lanka and will next move to Ottapalam, Palakkad. The segment, based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s memoir, will have Mammootty playing a writer who travels to the island country to trace the roots of a girl, whom his father had brought home when he was a child.

The featurette is the last of the segments in the anthology to be shot. The anthology, which has nine other segments, are all based on MT’s stories and are helmed by directors who have not worked on his scripts before. Priyadarshan has helmed two short films – Mohanlal’s Olavum Theeravum and Biju Menon’s Shilalikhithangal while Santosh Sivan, Shyamaprasad, Rathish Ambat, Ashwathy Vasudevan Nair, Jayaraj and Mahesh Narayanan have all directed one segment each. Shyamaprasad’s short film, which is based on Kazhcha, Narain and Parvathy Thiruvothu as part of its cast.

Meanwhile, Shyamaprasad is also awaiting the release of Kasiminte Kadal, which was recently screened at Indian Film Festival Stuttgart. The film, based on Anees Salim’s novel The Small-Town Sea, has Harish Uthaman, Arya Salim and Tashi Shamdat in lead roles. It revolves around a father-son duo who relocate to the former’s coastal hometown as his dying wish.
