For those who couldn’t catch the world premiere of Lijo Jose Pellissery and Mammootty’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam or its two succeeding shows at the International Film Festival of Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram earlier this month, the wait for the film’s release is all set to come to an end.

The team of the much-anticipated movie, which had won the audience poll award at the 27th edition of IFFK a few weeks ago, recently announced that the film has been cleared by the CBFC with a clean ‘U’ certificate and Mammootty also took to his social media page on Christmas day to reveal its first trailer.

While the team had previously revealed a few teasers of the film, the full-length trailer more than lived up to its hype of being a Lijo Jose Pellissery movie that has the megastar putting up a masterclass. The trailer revealed the world in which the story is set and also its eclectic characters. Though we only get to see glimpses of Mammootty’s character in the trailer, like previous Lijo films, the setting of the movie plays a huge role in the events that unfold.

The movie revolves around James, who is part of a group of Malayalis who are returning from a pilgrimage on a bus. Waking up from his siesta, he asks the driver to stop the bus near a village in Tamil Nadu and starts behaving like Sundaram, a man from the area who had disappeared.

Scripted by S Hareesh, the movie has Theni Easwar as its cinematographer. Ashokan, Ramya Pandian, Kainakary Thankaraj and Pramod Shetty are also part of the cast of the movie, which is set to hit theatres soon. One of the dates that the team is eyeing for is January 6, 2023, according to reports.

Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam is also produced by Mammootty and distributed by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. The megastar, meanwhile, is also gearing up for the release of Christopher in January 2023.
