While this pooja season was billed as the clash of the titans with films of Mohanlal, Mammootty and Suresh Gopi vying with each other for the box office crown, as the festive dates near, the Big M’s have already pulled out of the race. Among the three, Suresh Gopi’s Mei Hoom Moosa and Mammootty’s Rorschach seemed to have locked their release dates with the makers of both movies blocking theatres, but it seems that Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: I might have had a say in the latter pushing its release date further.

The distributors of Rorschach had reportedly signed a contract with film exhibitors, guaranteeing that the movie will play in theatres for a minimum of 50 days. The pooja season will also see the release of Hrithik Roshan’s Vikram Vedha and Nivin Pauly’s Saturday Night along with Ponniyin Selvan. This would limit the number of theatres available for Rorschach, with Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus being among the most-anticipated Tamil films this year.
