Manju Warrier will reportedly no longer be part of Nivin Pauly’s Padavettu. The movie, which is a socio-political thriller, had the actress in an extended cameo role and she had even completed shooting all her portions for the film.

Padavettu ran into controversy earlier this year after its director and scriptwriter Liju Krishna was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a woman. Liju was taken into custody on the sets of the film during its final schedule a few months ago.

Manju, meanwhile, had shot for the movie in two schedules in Kannur. She had initially acted in a few scenes with Nivin before the pandemic in 2020 and then resumed shooting for her portions earlier this year. However, according to a report by Kerala Kaumudy, the makers claimed that they changed the film’s script since the pandemic and this meant that there wasn’t too much prominence for Manju’s character in the film. Instead of retaining her scenes, they thought it was best to eliminate it altogether, according to the report.

Padavettu, which is co-produced by Sunny Wayne and Yoodlee Films, is about the fight of the oppressed to reclaim their pride and place in the society. The movie, which has Nivin playing a layman based in North Kerala, is set to hit theatres on September 2 this year. Apart from Nivin, the movie also has Aditi Balan and Shammi Thilakan in pivotal roles.

Meanwhile, Nivin has Thuramukham coming up next. The Rajeev Ravi directorial, which is about a revolt by the daily-wage workers in Cochin harbour in the 50s to abolish the malpractice of chappa system, has Nivin playing a Mattanchery based labourer named Moidu. The movie, which will hit theatres on June 3, also has Indrajith Sukumaran, Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan, Arjun Ashokan, Poornima Indrajith and Darshana Rajendran.
