Mankatha, the 2011 film that released in theatres once again on Friday (January 23) and was received with much welcome and good reception from fans. The Ajith-starrer film was a box office success even during its initial release, as the film is experiencing the same love this time too. Mankatha re-release: How much did Ajith movie collect?

Ajith's 50th outing Mankatha was re-released by the makers on January 23, Friday. The film, as per Pinkvilla report, has made Rs 3.75 crore at the box office in Tamil Nadu alone. While we had already reported that Mankatha pre-sales already overtook Vijay's Ghilli re-release, it has also overtaken the opening day collection in India.

According to the report, Mankatha made Rs 4.1 crore slightly edging over Ghilli which stands at Rs 4 crore. One should wait and see if Mankatha will surpass Ghilli's re-release collection of Rs 20 crore. Currently, the Vijay film is the highest grossing Tamil film for a re-release. It is to be noted that Vijay’s Theri was also planned for a re-release on that day, but was postponed by makers. Mankatha has been dominating the big screens this weekend, even as a couple of small films also hit theatres, including Hot Spot 2 Much and Draupathi 2.

What is Mankatha about?

Marking Ajith’s 50th film, Mankatha is a heist action drama, written and directed by Venkat Prabhu. The film was a commercial success at the time of its release, and features a star cast including Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Lakshmi Rai, Anjali, Andrea Jeremiah, Ashwin Kakumanu, Vaibhav Reddy, Premji Amaren, Mahat Raghavendra, Jayaprakash, Aravind Akash and Subbu Panchu.

The film revolves around a corrupt police officer who gangs up with a group of youngsters to plan a heist and loot cricket-betting money. Mankatha went on to become one of the iconic films in Ajith’s career.
