Mohanlal, who has been busy with his directorial debut Barroz: The Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure, completed the Goa schedule of the film on Friday. The movie has now one final schedule, which is planned in Portugal and could begin as soon as the arrangements are made next month.

The superstar had restarted work on Barroz in December and has been busy with it for most part of this year. The big budget 3D children’s fantasy, which also has Guru Somasundaram in a pivotal role, had gone on floors in April last year, only to be halted a week into its production after the lockdown in Kerala. This forced the team to scrap the portions they had shot during the week – including the scenes with Prithviraj Sukumaran – and begin with a clean slate later last year.

The movie, which is touted to be made on an even bigger budget than Mohanlal and Priyadarshan’s Marakkar, is scripted by My Dear Kuttachan director Jijo Punnoose. The foreign schedule of the movie will also feature international actors. Earlier Spanish actors Raphael Amargo and Paz Vega were roped in for the film. However, with the pandemic delaying the project, it remains to be seen if the duo is still part of the movie when the team begins the final schedule.

Mohanlal, meanwhile, also has another big release lined up – this time on OTT. 12th Man, his third collaboration with Drishyam director Jeethu Joseph, is set to hit theatres on Disney+ Hotstar on May 20. The mystery drama, which also has Unni Mukundan, Sshivada, Saiju Kurup, Priyanka Nair, G Chandunath, Anusree, Anu Sithara, Rahul Madhav, Anu Mohan and Aditi Ravi, will mark the superstar’s third direct-to-OTT release after Drishyam 2 and Bro Daddy.

The superstar, whose last release was B Unnikrishnan’s Aaraattu, also has Vysakh’s Monster and Shaji Kailas’ Alone coming up.
