Though director Vysakh had completed shooting most of Mohanlal-starrer Monster last year, the film has been delayed by almost nine months – a substantial period for a Malayalam movie. The filmmaker, at a recent function in Kozhikode, explained the reason the makers took their time to get the film ready for release.

“Compared to other films, Monster required extensive post production. It faced a lot of challenges,” said the director, who has teamed up with Mohanlal and scriptwriter Udaykrishna again after their blockbuster Pulimurugan for the September 30 release.

While there were several rumours that the film will be Malayalam’s first zombie movie, Vysakh dismissed them and said all he can reveal right now is that Monster will be a thriller. “We are reuniting after Pulimurugan and so we are aware of the high expectations of the audience. However, we were clear that we shouldn’t let any of that affect the making of the film or its story, and that’s one of the reasons we haven’t let a lot of details out,” said the director.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Mohanlal, who plays investigative officer named Lucky Singh in the film, had said that the movie doesn’t follow the conventional format of a thriller and its second half is packed with twists. Scriptwriter Udaykrishna too said that it’s different from the previous films that he has written, in the sense that this also has an experimental angle to it as it deals with a subject that hasn’t been tackled in Malayalam yet.

Meanwhile, Vysakh and Udaykrishna will be teaming up again for Unni Mukundan’s big budget action thriller titled Bruce Lee. The movie is expected to go on floors soon and will be made as a “pan-Indian” venture. Vysakh had previously worked with Unni a decade ago in Mallu Singh, which had the latter in his first-ever lead role.
