Seems like Mollywood is already gearing up for one of the biggest box office clashes since the pandemic! Drishyam director Jeethu Joseph’s Ram and Abhilash Joshiy’s King of Kotha could be taking each other on at the Mollywood box office in August 2023.

While Ram, which is the first instalment of the duology, will have Mohanlal in the lead, King of Kotha features Dulquer Salmaan’s second straight Malayalam theatrical release since the pandemic. The latter’s previous movie, Kurup had broken all box office records and did business over Rs 100 crore from box office, digital and satellite rights.

The makers of both movies are currently eyeing an Onam 2023 release, which will be in the final week of August. It’s been a while since there has been superstar-driven films releasing during the festive season, with the past few years, theatres remaining shut during the pandemic and last years seeing films such as Oru Thekkan Thallu Case releasing.

In an earlier interview with us, Jeethu had said that Ram has been planned as a duology and the scale of the movie has been increased keeping in account Mohanlal’s popularity that had soared after Drishyam 2 as well as the reach of action thrillers. The movie will have a pan Indian release, with it releasing in all major languages. Apart from Mohanlal, the film also has Trisha, Indrajith Sukumaran, Samyuktha Menon and Adil Hussain in leading roles.

King of Kotha too has been planned as a huge film. The team has completed shooting the major portions the past few months. Apart from Dulquer, the movie also has Aishwarya Lekshmi, Gokul Suresh, Chemban Vinod Jose, Prasanna and Rithika Singh. King of Kotha too will release in all major languages and hope to cash in on Dulquer’s popularity, which has seen a rise with Sita Ramam and Chup. Either ways, Malayalam industry stands to benefit from the two big releases, especially if both or either of them do well.
