After a series of musicians, including Rupam Islam and Prabuddha Banerjee, appeal to help Tapas Das, aka Bapi – one of the founding members of Bengal’s iconic music band Moheener Ghoraguli, the Bengal government came forward and took the responsibility of the musician’s treatment. Bapi Das is admitted to SSKM hospital. He has been suffering from cancer. Rupam took to his social media and informed the fans about the government’s help.

Known to be the first rock band of Bengal, Moheener Ghoraguli was formed in 1975. The songs did not lose popularity even after 47 years. However, the creators of those songs have passed away one by one. Now, the last horse of the band is also ailing.

Tapas Das is in the third stage and is undergoing chemotherapy. But his family is unable to bear the huge cost of treatment. A number of Bengali artistes chose social media to call for the help of this doyen of Bengali music. Sidhu, Arko Mukhaerjee, Rupam Islam, Gourab Chatterjee, aka Gaboo, and others have sought crowdfunding on social media. Gaboo, son of the founder of Moheener Ghoraguli Goutam Chattopadhyay, said, “There is no pressure on anyone. Help if you can. The treatment is ongoing.” Gaboo’s mother had a word with Tapas’ wife, said the musician. However, there is no dearth of spirit in Bapida who, despite his health condition, performed at the last Sangeet Mela.

Arko, in his post on social media, wrote, “Moheener Ghoraguli’s iconic song was Sudin Kache Eso Bhalobasi Eksathe Sobkichui. Bapida is ill. I am not that big who can introduce Bapida or talk about his contribution. He is in the third stage of lung cancer. he cannot take food, and went through a number of chemos. Right now, Bapida's weight is 35 kg. I talked with his wife Sutapadi. Bapida took the phone and talked to me, even in this condition. Thanks to Nilanjan and Koustuv for informing me. We and our friends will arrange an online fundraiser within a week. we ask you to contribute, whatever you can. The cost is huge. The song that haunted you over days and nights is priceless. Please come forward for its sake. Please remember that all of us have the responsibility to save this man.”
