Money Heist: Writer of the show ‘regrets’ his choice to kill Berlin’s character

As we all witnessed the heartwrenching sacrifice of Pedro Alonso aka Berlin in the second season of La Casa de Papel aka Money Heist the writer of the series actually regrets cutting him off. As the season finale is nearing, many more deaths can be expected even though fans still have not gotten over a couple of deaths of their favourite characters in the earlier episodes. One such being Berlin’s tragic sacrifice.

Even though his death was shown clearly, fans still hoped for his return in the third and fourth seasons. And they got to see glimpses of his character in the past two seasons with flashbacks, exploring more about him and his life. However, the series writer Javier Gomez Santander had once confessed that he regretted killing off his character.

When Javier was speaking with Spanish publication El Mundo, he revealed that they had penned an irreversible death for the character. He said, “Even characters with such a negative charge like Berlin end up being somewhat redeemed and people have a brutal affection for them. So we get him back for this season. How were we going to give it up?"

To justify killing him off, the producer also acknowledged that the character is a misogynist, narcissist and psychopath in many ways as the viewers know, but they gave the character those features because without that kind of a character, television is boring and bland, he further added. However, in the finale, Berlin’s son will be seen making an appearance.

The season finale is releasing on Netflix on September 3.
