Moppala out on Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video customers can currently rent the movie. It is expected to be available for for free, though. The movie is also available to OTTplay Premium subscribers with a top-up option. The movie received recognition for depicting the struggles faced by the grandson of a Theyyam performer from a mixed-caste marriage. Traditionalists forbid him from performing despite his passion for the artform. Additionally, it garnered acclaim for being a heartwarming depiction of the social and cultural conflicts that stem from Kerala's caste system.

Earlier this month, users outside of India were able to stream Santhosh Puthukunnu's directorial debut, Moppala, on Amazon Prime Video. Sahasam, Karam, and Vala: The Story of a Bangle are recent Malayalam films available for streaming on the same portal. Another movie that recently went up for rent on the website was Thelivu Sahitham, which starred Lokah-fame Nishanth Sagar.

Moppala plot, cast and other details

Devanandan, a twelve-year-old boy born to parents from two different castes, is the protagonist of the poignant drama. He experiences severe discrimination from the society. In the movie, Santhosh Keezhattur plays the Theyyam artist uncle of Devanandan. Rithesh Aramana, Sonia Malhar, Prajna R Krishna, Devanandan, Kookkal Raghavan, Ranjiraj Karinthalam, and Sudhakaran Thekkumpadan are among the other notable actors of the film. The director himself has authored the screenplay for the movie. Moppala's cinematographers are Prasanth Bhavani and Abhilash Karunakaran.

The movie won the Best Film Award at the Kerala Folklore Academy's International Folklore Film Festival in 2021. Additionally, it was formally chosen for the BeeBop Channel Content Film Festival in New York and the Lift-Off Global Network's First-Time Filmmakers Session in England.
