Mumbai Diaries 26/11: Actor Mrunmayee Deshpande says she could not improvise while playing a doctor

The role involved remembering technical and medical terminologies that, the actor said, she could not afford to get wrong. Set mostly in a hospital in Mumbai during the terror attack of 26/11, the show is now available on Amazon Prime Video.

Mumbai Diaries 26/11 has Indian audiences hooked with its quality and thrills. One among the many actors who pulled off great performances is Mrunmayee Deshpande, who plays the role of a doctor in the series. But preparing to play a doctor, she said, was unique and different.

“The mindset of a doctor is way different than that of any people we see in our daily life. Also, there is medical terminology that you cannot improvise and you also cannot get it wrong at all,” the actor and filmmaker told IANS.

She also further added that it is similar to a film set where people might talk among themselves in technical terms that cannot go wrong. Revealing that there were professional doctors on set to supervise the actors for accuracy, she also said that doctors react on seeing blood and a human body like normal people but their minds work magically, to save lives.

Mrunmayee, who is best known for anchoring the show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Marathi L'il Champs apart from her movies, is seen playing Dr. Sujata Ajawale, a first year surgical resident who works at the Bombay General Hospital, during the fateful night when terrorists attacked Mumbai on November 26, 2008. She and her colleagues work under the situation crisis to save lives at the hospital without any discrimination.

Directed by Nikkhil Advani, Mumbai Diaries 26/11 also stars Mohit Raina, Konkona Sen Sharma, Satyajeet Dubey, Prakash Belawadi, Nitin Dondage and Mishal Raheja among others. The eight-episode season of the medical thriller is now available to stream on Prime Video.
