His weapons include – the Fire-Tipped Spear, Wind Fire Wheels, Universe Ring, and Red Armillary Sash. There are different perspectives to his character. It began with the Buddhist origins (Indian deity Nalakūbara), where Ne Zha was viewed as the guardian of dharma. The original novel sees Ne Zha submit to his father, but the modern rebirth champions individualism, where Ne Zha emphasizes, "My fate is up to me, not the Heavens."

The movie also focuses on Ao Bing, who is originally brutally killed by Ne Zha for polluting the sea. However, the film adaptation sees Ao Bing as Ne Zha’s best friend who is burdened by the never-ending expectations from the oppressed dragon clan.

Their physical bodies are destroyed by lightning, but their master Taiyi Zhenren finds a way to bring their souls back into their bodies. The fight to save Ao Bing, though, extends – for Ne Zha has to earn an immortality elixir by passing demon-hunting trials. As all of this unfolds, there’s a threat to destroy Ne Zha’s hometown of Chentang Pass and the entire dragon clan. Will Ne Zha succeed in his mission? Can Ao Bing ever be the same again? Will they both live normal lives ever again? The movie raises such questions.
