Priyanka Chopra is all set to be back in Indian films, starring as Mandakini in Varanasi. Her first-look poster, featuring her in a yellow saree and brandishing a pistol, promises a fearless, action-filled role.
On the other hand, Mahesh Babu portrays Rudhra, a rugged adventurer on a time-spanning mission that promises epic stakes. Prithviraj Sukumaran intensifies the drama as Kumbha, the story’s formidable antagonist.
Wheelchair-bound Kumbh is a fearsome adversary who commands both fear and respect. Prithviraj's first look poster already hints at a terrifying obstacle in Rudra's epic journey.
Rajamouli’s Varanasi is set for April 7, 2027, theatrical release, and it is an ambitious, globe-spanning, and time-travelling mythological action-adventure. The plot revolves around a Shiva devotee named Rudhra (Babu) navigating multiple eras and continents, from Africa to Antarctica, to find an ancient artefact after an asteroid strikes Varanasi. The story is said to be heavily influenced by the Ramayana.
In an interview with Screen Rant Plus, Chopra discussed the cultural and technological contrasts she has seen since returning from major Hollywood productions. She said, "For me, I haven't done a Telugu movie in I don't even know... I haven't done one. Being able to get, like, having that kind of acceptance from Telugu fans, as you've seen, it's very, very specific to this region, first of all. That kind of level of love and affection is something very unique to this region."
Global icon Priyanka Chopra said that one of the highlights of her career has been the return of the traditional song-and-dance scene in Varanasi.
