Dinesh Vijan has defended the inclusion of three item numbers in the Diwali release, Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal.

Ayushmann Khurrana-Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma is currently making the noise not only for its theatrical release but also on the musical front. The movie has as many as three dance numbers - something that is unusual with Hindi movies in today's times. In a recent interview, Dinesh Vijan explained the reason behind this move. He also pointed out how Nora Fatehi is actually the girl from Stree 2, and thus, the narrative continues and is woven into the story.

Thamma producer Dinesh Vijan defended including three songs in the upcoming movie starring Ayushmann Khurrana in the leading role. "Even Aaj Ki Raat (in Stree 2) was a part of the narrative. Nora (Nora Fatehi) here is a character. She’s the girl from Stree. So it’s not like we’re just inserting a song randomly. I don’t think we’ll do it that way. And something’s going down," the filmmaker explained to Galatta Plus, adding, "Sometimes I feel we overintellectualize films. The fact is, the West has been doing musicals forever. If vampires like to party, you’ve got to show a party, right?"
"I was having the same discussion with Dino (Dinesh Vijan) today that all these so-called item songs are actually part of the narrative. The story is moving forward; there’s a reason that song is there," Ayushmann said as he resonated with Dinesh Vijan's sentiments.
Helmed by Munjya-famed director Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma prides itself as an experimental film from the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU). The movie, introducing a vampire, is not only the first romantic-comedy film with hints of horror but it also has as many as three dance numbers. They include Tum Mere Na Huye Dilbar Ki Aankhon Ka and Poison Baby. The movie also features Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the leading roles apart from Ayushmann and Rashmika.
Q: Is Thamma connected to Stree?
A: Yes, Thamma is connected to the Stree universe, created by Maddock Films, which also includes the films Stree and Bhediya. Ayushmann Khurrana will star as a vampire in Thamma, which is part of this horror-comedy franchise.
Q: How is Munjya linked to Stree?
A: The universe-building began with Bhediya, in which characters from Stree appeared. This was followed by Munjya, where characters from Bhediya and Stree appeared. Bhediya's characters continued in Stree 2, making Stree and Bhediya the central link connecting the three films.
