Kunchacko Boban's action thriller Officer on Duty is the sole hit from Malayalam cinema in February 2025, the Kerala Film Producers’ Association has confirmed. Jithu Ashraf’s debut directorial venture seems to be following the trend set by Asif Ali’s mystery thriller Rekhachithram which was also declared as the only hit of January 2025.

The Kerala Film Producers’ Association has released the data on the films that released in theatres in February 2025, confirming that Kunchacko Boban's latest thriller Officer on Duty has emerged to be the only hit.

As per a report on Hindu, Kerala Film Producers’ Association vice-president G Suresh Kumar said, “Of the 17 movies released in February, there was only one hit - Officer on Duty.”

As per Sacnilk, Officer on Duty has earned 52.84 crore in worldwide collections. The film, which also stars Priyamani, Jagadish, and Vishak Nair, made its OTT premiere on Netflix on March 20, 2025.

Other major Malayalam movies that were released in February are Antony Varghese-starrer Daveed and Bromance, starring Arjun Ashokan and Mathew Thomas. Suresh Kumar said that these two movies may not suffer losses. The film producers’ association had earlier said that they would be releasing the budgets and producer's share from theatres every month.

Officer on Duty follows the trend set by Rekhachithram

It is interesting to note that Officer on Duty is the only hit of the past month. This is akin to the state of affairs in January 2025, when only the Asif Ali-starrer Rekhachithram, which also had Anaswara Rajan in the lead, emerged to be the first hit of the year and only hit of the month. After a successful run at the theatres, Rekhachithram is currently streaming on SonyLiv and OTTplay Premium

January saw several movies releasing in theatres, including Mammootty’s Dominic and the Ladies' Purse and Basil Joseph’s Ponman. Despite opening to good reviews, Basil Joseph’s thriller drama film failed to become a box office hit. But ever since it is OTT premiere, the film has been winning much love from audiences.
