Vikram's Cobra, directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu, will stream on SonyLIV soon.

A still from Cobra
After three years of filming, Ajay Gnanamuthu's Cobra was released on August 31. Vikram plays a mastermind named Cobra in this Tamil-language film produced by 7 Screen Studio. While the protagonist presents himself as a simple math genius, in reality, he uses his skills to carry out assassinations and murders.
The film's OTT rights have been acquired by Sony LIV. After its theatrical run, the Vikram-starrer will be available on the streaming platform. For now, the Cobra OTT release date is yet to be finalised.
The Ajay Gnanamuthu-directed Cobra runs 3 hours, 3 minutes, and 3 seconds and marks Vikram's return to the big screen following the 2019 release Kadaram Kondan, with his most recent outing, Karthik Subbaraj's Mahaan, opting for a direct-to-digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video earlier this February.
Cobra also stars Roshan Mathew, Srinidhi Shetty, Mia George, Mohammad Ali Baig, Mirnalini Ravi, Meenakshi, and KS Ravikumar, and cricketer Irfan Pathan in lead roles, in addition to Vikram.
Cobra has music by AR Rahman and was released alongside Natchathiram Nagargirathu directed by Pa Ranjith, who is currently directing Vikram's next film (tentatively titled; Chiyaan 61, backed by Studio Green's Gnanavel Raja).
Vikram, on the other hand, is preparing for the release of Ponniyin Selvan a historical epic drama directed by Mani Ratnam. Aditya Karikalan, the legendary Tamil king of the Cholan dynasty, will be played by the actor.
Aside from these, Vikram is set to reunite with the Demonte Colony director after Cobra. The actor revealed in a recent Twitter Spaces that their next film will have a unique and compelling story.
The review of Cobra on OTTplay read, "The film, like the snake, goes all out in a variety of ways. You don't know the answers to many questions. What is the connection between someone from Tamil Nadu going to kill people in Scotland and Odisha? I'm not going to give anything away!"
Further, the review stated that Vikram, once again, does more for Cobra than the film does for him. "He's a mathematician, a teacher, an assassin—whatever he is you want him to be. He enters the character and stays there. It's lovely, but it doesn't help a screenplay that's all over the place."
