Operation Cambodia: Prithviraj Sukumaran enters Tharun Moorthy’s Operation Java franchise, OG cast too returns

Prithviraj Sukumaran has joined forces with Thudarum director Tharun Moorthy for Operation Cambodia, which would be the second part after his 2021 film Operation Java.

It is raining announcements and this one is big! Prithviraj Sukumaran has entered Tharun Moorthy’s Operation Java franchise, it has just been announced officially. The upcoming film’s title was revealed to be Operation Cambodia or Operation Java 2. The first-look poster and cast have also been unveiled. Check out all the details here.

Prithviraj in Operation Java 2

Malayalam actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran has joined forces with Thudarum director Tharun Moorthy for Operation Cambodia, which would be the second part in the Operation Java franchise after his 2021 film. Prithviraj took to social media on October 2 to make the announcement and also shared the poster with the cast details.

Apart from Prithviraj, the film would feature the OG cast of the Malayalam film Operation Java - Balu Varghese, Lukman Avaran, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali and Prasanth Alexander. Much like the 2021 film, which marked the debut of Tharun Moorthy, Operation Cambodia is also penned by the director. It is not known if Operation Cambodia would be a direct sequel to Operation Java.

Faiz Siddik will handle the cinematography, and Jakes Bejoy, who is enjoying the success of Lokah, would be composing the music. Binu Pappu has also been credited as co-director

What does the first look poster show

The poster features a television screen with CCTV footage. A gun is also seen in the room, which has a run-down look with passports, bullets, a pistol and other items scattered on the ground. A landline phone is also seen with the receiver left dangling. A walkie-talkie on the table, and the wall riddled with bullet marks are other ominous signs on the poster, which promise that another thriller is on the cards.

Though there had been talks of a sequel to Operation Java, the news of the franchise and Prithivraj Sukumaran entering the world has come as a pleasant surprise to the fans. Fans have been saying this is an unexpected collaboration on Twitter. Tharun Moorthy had earlier announced another film, titled Torpedo, starring Fahadh Faasil along with Naslen. Binu Pappu would be scripting Torpedo. His last film with Mohanlal, Thudarum, was a runaway hit. Tharun has said that he would work on Operation Java 2 after Torpedo.

Earlier in the day, the Patriot teaser was released, which brings back Mammootty and Mohanlal together onscreen. A Telugu film was also announced titled Bloody Romeo, starring Nani, and which is rumoured to feature Prithivraj as well.
