Actor-director Basil Joseph’s previous theatrical release Palthu Janwar is finally gearing up to drop on a streaming service. The feel-good film, which is helmed by debutant Sangeeth P Rajan, emerged as a sleeper hit during the festive season.

The film, which is scripted by Vinoy Thomas and Aneesh Anjali, revolves around the life of a livestock inspector who comes to a village as part of its first job and is immediately disillusioned by what he has to do. Over time, he begins to see the positive side of his job, but this lands him in trouble, thanks to the bureaucracy and blame-game that follows. How he takes a decision that also has ramifications on the villagers, form the plot of the Palthu Janwar.

Apart from Basil, the movie, which released in theatres on September 2, also has Indrans, Shammi Thilakan, Johny Antony, Dileesh Pothan and Unnimaya in pivotal roles. The film, which is produced by Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh, Jaya Kurup and Syam Pushkaran, is currently set to release on Disney+ Hotstar.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay about the movie, Basil, who had helmed Tovino Thomas-starrer Minnal Murali said, “It deals with the people that my character meets, the animals he encounters and the adventures that ensue. It would belong to a coming-of-age genre where the character also deals with his frustrations of not being able to chase his passion.”

The film’s story is partly inspired by an incident that happened in the life of the scriptwriter Aneesh’s father, who was also a livestock inspector. Sangeeth had earlier told us that when Aneesh narrated this to him, he thought it had enough potential to be made into a film, if they could also weave in other interesting incidents. The art department as well as the CGI team also have played a huge role in Palthu Janwar, which will be available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar from October 14.
