Telugu films struggle on Pan-India level in 2025

There is no denying the fact that the pan-India trend was started by the likes of SS Rajamouli with his big hit Baahubali. Since then, there have been many films like KGF and Pushpa that made solid money at the box office and turned stars like Yash and Allu Arjun into overnight sensations across the country.

Telugu Pan-India films losing steam in 2025

Since then, several films have been released on a pan-India scale, but only a few have made a real difference. When it comes to 2025, things have not been the same, especially for Telugu cinema, as most of the so-called pan-India films bombed at the box office.

The only film that made some money was Teja Sajja’s Mirai, which made close to Rs 15 crore as per tracking portal Sacnilk. The recent release Akhanda 2, which was promoted extensively by Balakrishna and his team, was a disaster in the Hindi belt, as it made only Rs 65 lakh and is already out of theatres.

At the same time, Balakrishna’s other film, Daaku Maharaj, which was released in January 2025, was also promoted heavily in Hindi as it featured Bobby Deol as the main villain. Sadly, that film also failed to evoke any response in northern India.

During the same period, Shankar’s Game Changer was released in Hindi, but it made only Rs 25 crore, which is far below the price at which it was sold in the Hindi belt. Only big-ticket films like Kantara 2 made big money in 2025, while the rest of the South Indian films fell flat.

Pawan Kalyan’s OG met with a similar fate in Hindi, ending as a flop with collections of just Rs 3 crore. The star power of Pawan Kalyan did not work at all in the northern belt. On the other hand, many expected the Baahubali re-release to make big money, but Baahubali: The Epic earned only Rs 6 crore in Hindi, as per Sacnilk.

When it comes to Tamil films, Thug Life made Rs 2 crore in Hindi, while Suriya’s Retro collected only Rs 50 lakh. Seeing the current trend, one can easily understand that the pan-India trend is slowly declining, with films being rejected one after the other.

With big films like Dhurandhar bringing back the good old days for Hindi cinema, gone are the days when Hindi audiences used to get excited about South Indian releases.

Next in line are Yash’s Toxic, Nani’s The Paradise, and Prabhas’ Salaar 2. We need to see how these films will fare when they are released in Hindi. Stay tuned for more.
