Pennum Porattum: Rajesh Madhavan on casting fresh faces, thanks to his learning from Fahadh Faasil film

Pennum Porattum director Rajesh Madhavan said he was in awe of how Fahadh Faasil's film Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum was executed, which included casting real police officers in the film.

Malayalam actor Rajesh Madhavan turns director with the upcoming film Pennum Porattum, set to release in theatres on February 13, 2026. The film features a fresh cast, and the debut director says it is expected of him. Speaking about how he was impressed with Fahadh Faasil Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, which featured real cops, Rajesh Madhavan said that he went one step further in his movie.

How Fahadh film inspired Rajesh Madhavan

Rajesh Madhavan, who has dabbled various roles behind and in front of the camera, was the assistant director of the film Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, helmed by Dileesh Pothan. Speaking about the film in an interview with The Cue Studio, Rajesh Madhavan said he was in awe of how the film was executed, which included casting real police officers in the film.

“I believe to narrate the story in my style, new people are needed. I started working with Pothan, that is where I learned. During Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, he came up one day and said that we would cast real cops.Today, it would be fine, But then that was not the case, how would you cast real cops. But that was made possible. It is one of the biggest wonders I have seen for real - from the casting to the execution of Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum. If that was possible, this can be easily done,” explained Rajesh.

The actor, who has also worked as the casting director for Nna Thaan Case Kodu, said that he went one step further in Pennum Porattum. Several of the people who have been cast do not have theatre experience and were junior artistes.

What is Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum about

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum revolves around a young married couple Sreeja and Prasad. Sreeja’s gold chain is snatched on the bus. Though the thief is apprehended, they are not able to find the gold chain on him. The rest of the film mostly unfolds at the police station. Fahadh Faasil played the thief, while Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Nimisha Sajayan are seen as the couple. Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum is streaming on JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium.
