As the shooting of Mani Ratnam’s dream project Ponniyin Selvan has resumed in Pondicherry, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aishwarya Lekshmi have reportedly joined the team. Earlier, it was reported that actor Karthi is also part of this schedule.
The historical drama is based on a novel written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy. The book narrates the story of the former days of Arulmozhivarman, one of the most powerful kings in the south. While Aishwarya Rai will apparently be playing a dual role of Nandhini and Mandakini Devi, Aishwarya Lekshmi will be playing Poonguzhali.

Director Mani Ratnam revealed lately that the film has completed 75 per cent of its shooting and will only be released in theatres. The makers had unveiled the poster recently and Aishwarya Rai too had shared the poster in her Instagram page a couple of days ago. “The Golden Era comes to life. Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan PS1,” she captioned the post.
The film is produced by Madras Talkies in association with Lyca Productions. AR Rahman handles the music while cinematography is done by Ravi Varman. Brinda is the choreographer and the dialogues are written by B Jeyamohan.
Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam is looking forward to the release of his latest Tamil anthology Navarasa, which will stream on Netflix from August 6.
