Prakambanam released in theatres on January 30, 2026, along with director Jeethu Joseph’s thriller movie Valathu Vashathe Kallan. Prakambanam, which was made on a modest budget, collected Rs 22.52 crore in worldwide collections, as per trade tracker Sacnilk. The India gross collection is at Rs 17.77 crore, while the overseas collection is Rs 4.75 crore, according to the data on the website.
Directed by Vijesh Panathur, Prakambanam follows three youths in Kochi - Siddu, Punyalan and Al Ameen, who go about their college days, juggling campus life, student politics and such. But their carefree days come to an instant when Punyalan gets possessed by the spirit of an elderly woman, leading to several humorous incidents. What is more, the grandmother’s spirit intends to settle some score through these hapless youths?
Sreehari Vadakkan has penned the script and the comedic bits seem to have worked with the audiences who were looking for mindless fun.

Prakambanam joins other popular Malayalam horror comedies, such as Romancham and Adi Kapyare Kootamani, which was also set in a hostel though the spooky bits are reserved for the climax.
Ganapathi of Manjummel Boys fame leads the youths as Sidhu, while Pani actor Sagar Surya plays Punyalan and Al Ameen appears as Shankaran. Senior actress Mallika Sukumaran appears in the grandmother role, another fun character.
Actor-filmmaker Rajesh Madhavan, Azees Nedumangad, Alexander Prasanth, and PP Kunhikrishnan are also part of the cast. The film also features Kalabhavan Navas, who passed away during the shoot of the film. The late actor was seen as Siddu's father.
The other Malayalam OTT releases this week include Rajesh Madhavan's directorial debut Pennum Porattum on Netflix, and Sukran on Sun NXT via OTTplay Premium.
