The Malayalam film Prakambanam recently made its digital premiere on Zee5 via OTTplay Premium. Despite not having any big stars or pre-release hype, Prakambanam had a decent box office run. From the fun plot to the cast, here are four reasons to watch the latest Malayalam horror comedy online.
Watch Prakambanam, Sukran and the latest Malayalam releases with OTTplay Premium.
Prakambanam follows three college lads- Sidhu, Punyalan and Shankaran- as they navigate their campus life, try their hand at student politics and enjoy hostel life. But all that gets upended when one of them gets possessed, that too by the spirit of a grandmother, leading to chaotic and funny moments. Directed by Vijesh Panathur, the film promises to be a mindless entertainer.
Ganapathi, Sagar Surya, and Al Ameen play the lead roles of the close college friends. Sagar Surya impresses especially when he transforms into the elderly woman, getting the slight hunch, walk and dialogue delivery correct. Senior actress Mallika Sukumaran also seems to have fun as the strict grandmother, sticking to her ways. P. P. Kunhikrishnan as her husband and Azees Nedumangad and late actor Kalabhavan Navas as their sons also support the lead cast well. Pennum Porattum director Rajesh Madhavan too makes an appearance as a 'Russian' exorcist at the end, adding to the chaotic comedy
The fun banter between the students and tit-for-tat replies between Sidhu’s family members carry much of the film, which does not take itself too seriously. Sreehari Vadakkan has penned the script, which seamlessly brings in both campus comedy and the family strife in the movie. Bibin Ashok's songs and Sankar Sharma's background score also help keep the film engaging.
Malayalam cinema seems to be going back to the horror-comedy genre more recently. After actor Arjun Ashokan’s Sumathi Valavu this is the second horror comedy to land on Zee5. Another film with supernatural elements and narrated with a lot of heart and humor was Nivin Pauly’s hit film Sarvam Maya. Fans of horror comedy should definitely check out Prakambanam.
