Prince and Family out on OTT: Directed by debutant Binto Stephen, Prince and Family, which released in theatres on May 9, was Dileep’s 150th film and did well at the box office

The Malayalam original film Prince and Family, starring Janapriya Nayakan Dileep in the lead, is out on OTT. The film, directed by debutant Binto Stephen and written by Sharis Mohammed had hit theatres in early May. Leading man Dileep’s 150th film, the comedy drama opened to positive reviews and did well at the box office, a welcome sign for the actor, whose previous films, Pavi Caretaker, Thankamani, Bandra, among others, had failed to set the registers ringing.

Prince and Family is now available to stream on Z5 (Zee5) and, by extension on OTTplay Premium as well, in its Malayalam original version, as well with a Tamil dubbed one. The film also stars Raniya Raanaa, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Siddique, Bindu Panicker, Johny Antony, Manju Pillai, Ashwin Jose, and Josekutty Jacob. Urvashi and Vineeth Thattil David have cameos in the film. Produced by Listin Stephen, the film’s music is by Sanal Dev, while cinematography is by Renadive.

What is Prince and Family about?

Binto’s film, which was shot across locations in Ooty, Kozhikode and Ernakulam, revolves around Dileep’s character Prince Chakkalakkal, the middle-aged, unmarried breadwinner in a family that includes his parents and two brothers, both of who are married and have their own families as well. What follows when Prince, who runs a small-time boutique, finally finds his match in a social media influencer, is what Prince and Family is all about.

The film’s success is being attributed to the revival of vintage Dileep in the character of Prince Chakkalakkal, with a fun-filled first half and emotional second. Dileep and Siddique’s comedy was said to be the major highlight of the film. However, the film was also called out for eventually being a vessel for an older generation to preach to the younger ones about why their ways are any day better than what’s more acceptable in today’s times.
