The percussionist becomes a voting member of the Recording Academy that is known for hosting the annual Grammy Awards

Noted percussionist, composer and Global India Music Academy Award recipient Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee has been selected as a voting member of the prestigious Recording Academy from Kolkata. The Recording Academy is best known for hosting the annual Grammy Awards. According to sources, the percussionist’s entry as a member of the academy is also to maintain diversity in its membership. Prodyut has now been invited to become a voting member at the Grammys. Besides, he will also contribute to the Recording Academy’s activities throughout the year.

Evidently, the percussionist was on cloud nine after he got the news. Prodyut said, “I feel honoured for being selected as a voting member at the prestigious Recording Academy. I will try to put my best foot forward and execute my responsibilities.”

Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee is one of the most prominent soloists in the field of Indian classical music. Besides, he is also an integral part of the popular music scene for his various musical works. His recent initiative, ‘Green Tabla’, in which he used his old discarded tablas to turn them into planters, got a lot of appreciation on social media.

Prodyut got a GIMA award for his album Rhythm Express-Moods along with Padma Bhusan Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. The percussionist has recently released a song – Roshni Ho Sarhadon Mein – to say no to war. The song features Padma Shri Anup Jalota, Kishore Sodha, Supratik Das, Neetu Saini, and Abhik Ganguly.

Aimed at increasing diversity in its membership, 10 Indian musicians have been invited to become voting members at the Grammys and contribute to the Recording Academy’s activities throughout the year and Prodyut Mukherjee is one of the most prominent and well-known names along with the likes of Sufi singer-composer Sonam Kalra, Aditya Kalyanpur, Sherise D’Souza, Los Angeles-based Indian singer-songwriter Natania, Chicago-based singer-songwriter Subhi, Pune-born guitarist-producer, and songwriter Karan Pandav, classical singer Kamini Natarajan and composer-producer Shruti Kumar (both of them are based in Los Angeles).
