A mere week after theatrical release, Puneeth Rajkumar starrer Yuvarathnaa will stream on Amazon Prime Video from April 9. Making the announcement of moving the film to the OTT platform, production house Hombale Films will also continue to screen the film in theatres.

Written and directed by Santosh Ananddram, Yuvarathnaa focuses on the privatization of government colleges which is a threat to the right to education of underprivileged students. The Kannada language action-drama film released in theatres on April 1 to a booming applause. But soon, the government of Karnataka showed concerns over the rising cases of COVID-19. This resulted in a cap being implemented on occupancy in theatres. With only 50 percent attendance allowed, the filmmakers expressed their anxiety. Hombale Films issued a statement which announced their decision to move Yuvarathnaa to Amazon Prime Video in an effort to reach larger audiences, especially families and the elderly.

Kannada superstar Puneeth Rajkumar was perturbed by this decision of the government, claiming that the Chief Minister of Karnataka had assured the public that no restrictions were being considered to curb the pandemic. Worried that a good Kannada film like Yuvarathnaa will face losses in spite of proving to be a fan-favourite, Puneeth stated that the release would have been postponed if the production house was given an intimation regarding the restrictions. Puneeth’s meeting with Chief Minister B.S Yediyurappa resulted in the restrictions getting deferred till April 7 in order to allow the film to rake in audiences.

Yuvarathnaa also stars Sayyeshaa, Sonu Gowda, Dhananjay and Prakash Raj. Written and directed by Santosh Ananddram, the film can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video from April 9.
