The roots of the genre of disaster movies can be traced back to Edwin Porter’s film Life of an American Fireman which came out in 1903, making the genre one of the oldest. The film is one of the rarest art forms that can capture the magnanimous spectacle of a disaster. And with the world still battling the pandemic and trying to emerge out of it, we can try to draw catharsis by engaging in films such as Melancholia, Outbreak, The Perfect Storm, Contagion, The Perfect Storm, Twister, San Andreas, and Volcano. Some of these films are classics in their own right with films like Airport(1970), Twister(1996), Titanic(1997), and The Impossible (2012), getting Academy Award nominations.
