Raanna, who debuted in 2023 with Ek Love Ya, is finally back with his sophomore project. While his launchpad was a colourful love story with a revenge track, directed by his brother-in-law, Prem, this time, he has collaborated with a newbie filmmaker, in a project backed by filmmaker Tharun Sudhir. Raanna will be seen in newcomer Punit Rangaswamy’s Elumale, which hits theatres on September 5. The film has been described as an edge-of-the-seat thriller, which also includes an intense love track.

Elumale set on the night of the Veerappan encounter
Elumale is set in 2004 and is a story that transpires in one night and follows a cross-border romance between a Kannadiga boy and Tamilian girl. Raanna is paired with Priyanka Achar of the reality show Mahanati, in the film. His struggle to be united with his lover one fateful night is what the film is about, with the thriller elements centred on the police operation to capture forest brigand Veerappan. This tale, as it so happens, is set on the night that Veerappan was killed in a police encounter.
Certified U/A, Elumale includes all these elements in a run-time of 2 hours 5 minutes only, if one were to take out the start and end credits, said Tharun, adding that the story is an amalgamation of real incidents. The highlight, he says, is the climax, which the filmmaker adds, will make audiences wonder if a love story can be ended in such fashion. He also promises surprises galore in the narrative, which, may not be wow moments, but will be exciting enough. The film also stars Jagapathi Babu, Kishore, TS Nagabharana, among others.
