The team of editor-director Don Max’s techno-thriller ‘@’ recently revealed the first look of Rachel David’s character through an artificial intelligence-designed poster. The movie, which had wrapped up shoot a few months, ago also marks the late filmmaker Sachy’s son Akash Sen’s debut.

In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Don says that while Akash plays an IT professional in the film, Rachel, who was last seen in Suresh Gopi-starrer Kaaval in Malayalam, will be essaying the role of an ethical hacker. On the genre of the movie, the filmmaker tells us, “More than a techno-thriller, the movie revolves around the dark web. Through the movie, the audience will also gain awareness about dark web and the kind of crimes that can be perpetrated in the future through it.”

On how relevant the story is to Kerala, the director says, “These days, every day we get news of drugs being peddled. But we had written the script during the pandemic, and then the story just become more relevant with more such cases being reported in the State.”

Apart from Rachel David and Akash, the film also has Shaju Sreedhar, Sanjana Jose, Nayana Elsa, Sharanjith and host of relative newcomers as part of the cast. The thriller is also among the first few films in South India to be shot using the latest RED Raptor camera. “As we are dealing with dark web, the cinematography of the film plays a pivotal role. From the onset, we knew we had portions set in server rooms and hacking set-up that didn’t have too much light. So, using a low-light camera such as this helped in the making,” says the filmmaker. Ravi Chandran is the film’s cinematographer.

On the release plans of the movie, Don says that they are currently aiming at February 2023 release.
